Award-winning artist Janyce Sukow was born in Goodland, Kansas and realized at the tender age of 6 she'd be an artist/musician when she grew up. Capturing people's likenesses on paper or canvas became an ever-growing fascination, and a lifelong pursuit of these artistic skills has proven to be a joyful, ongoing journey of learning and discovery. She began composing and arranging music at an early age and had many years of lessons in classical piano and clarinet. Janyce feels that her God-given abilities in art and music are intrinsically intertwined, complementing each other as witnessed in her creative multi-media presentations.
As a young adult living in Arizona, Janyce's work became increasingly in demand for commissioned work, and she honed her skills doing just that for 10 years while also pursuing her art education through the University of Nebraska, Scottsdale Center for the Arts and, later on, at the Portland School of Art in Maine. She has worked as an instructor, demonstrator, adjudicator, illustrator, gallery owner, music teacher/director plus serving as keyboardist/vocalist in a Northwest band, One Accord. Additionally Janyce has been involved in various recording projects. Her paintings are displayed in numerous private and corporate collections across the U.S. and are published in Best of Oils (Kennedy Publishing) as well as Jeff Brandt's Tasty Rhythms. Janyce has held membership and been active in such organizations as Oil Painters of America, Northwest Pastel Society, Music Teachers National Association, Aglow International and American Society of Portrait Artists. She and her husband Dan are proud parents of 3 grown children: Mysti, Evan and Talia.
Janyce has been living in the beautiful Northwest for the past 25 years and her original work can be seen at the Proctor Gallery in Tacoma, Washington.
